The Problem

Local community apps consistently fail because users download, see empty spaces with no content or members, and immediately churn. Founders waste months manually researching local information (government offices, utility providers, school districts, trash schedules) for each ZIP code, creating a massive barrier to providing immediate value and competing with established platforms like Facebook Groups.

Potential Solution

A data-as-a-service platform that aggregates, verifies, and structures comprehensive local utility and municipal information by ZIP code. Community apps integrate via simple API to instantly display relevant local resources—DMV locations, water/trash services, school enrollment, parking permits—giving users immediate utility before the community features gain traction.

Why Now?

Post-pandemic digital transformation has fragmented local information across thousands of municipal websites while increasing demand for neighborhood connectivity. As founders seek alternatives to Facebook's dominance, they need infrastructure that accelerates product-market fit and solves the critical cold-start retention problem.

My local app isn’t getting users — does this pivot make more sense?
I built a local community + utility app for neighborhoods — chat, events, local deals, etc. People said they liked the concept, but almost nobody downloaded it. The feedback I keep hearing is: • “It feels empty when I open it.” • “I already use Facebook groups.” • “Why switch?” So I think I built the wrong *first impression*. Now I'm considering a pivot: ➡️ Pre-load each ZIP code with real local value: • Government info (DMV, taxes, local offices) • Utilities (electric, water, trash setup) • Schools (maps, links, info) • Then community chat + events sit underneath that Basically: give people the real info they need the first week they move into a ZIP, not a blank community space. Questions for business owners: 1. Does this pivot make more sense? 2. Would this create a stronger “hook” for new users? 3. Should I test the pivot first or fully rebuild? Happy to share the current version if helpful. Thanks for any blunt feedback.
