The Problem

Small creators and growing businesses struggle to choose and set up the right open-source eCommerce platform. They face a confusing landscape of options (WooCommerce, Magento, Bagisto, OpenCart) with unclear trade-offs around ease of use, scalability, and cost. Even after choosing, getting a performant store running with payments, product catalogs, and vendor support requires significant technical effort.

Potential Solution

A managed deployment and optimization tool that lets users select an open-source eCommerce engine, then automatically provisions hosting, configures the store, sets up payments and shipping, and applies performance tuning for large catalogs. It includes a built-in benchmark so users can see how their chosen platform handles their expected product count and traffic before committing, plus one-click migration between platforms as needs evolve.

Why Now?

SaaS platform fees (Shopify, BigCommerce) keep rising, pushing cost-conscious sellers toward open-source alternatives. Meanwhile, cloud infrastructure and containerization have matured enough to make managed open-source deployments reliable and affordable at any scale.

Choosing an e-commerce site
For ecommerce, Shopify is probably one of the most popular choices, and for good reason. It's built specifically for online selling, and its App Store gives you access to plenty of additional features as your business grows. The downside is that pricing can become a concern, especially when you're just starting out. If you're mainly looking for a simple, affordable way to start selling your products, you could also consider website.com. Their website builder is section-based, which I think makes building and customizing the actual storefront easier than Shopify, especially for beginner. You can start with a template, replace the placeholder text and images, add or remove sections as needed, and easily add an online store to start selling your products. One particularly inexpensive option is that if you haven't registered a domain yet, you can register one with website.com and get the website builder, web hosting, online store, and one custom domain email mailbox included free. Their .com domains are around USD$15/year, so it's a pretty low-cost way to get an ecommerce website up and running. Of course, if you eventually need more advanced ecommerce features, Shopify may be the better long-term choice. But if you're just testing the waters and want to keep your initial costs low, website.com could be worth looking into.

FluentCart A New Era of eCommerce – Faster, Lighter, and Simpler

promising but not there yet I would love to use FC for an actual live shop but it’s just not there yet. especially if you want to sell physical items in the EU there are lots of small problems and missing features (germanized or German market integration fixes these things in woo). Missing translations (german in my case) are a bummer and builder integration is only ok. I would love to have more detailed control and hav
