New parents constantly second-guess whether their baby is dressed appropriately for sleep, cycling between fears of overheating and hypothermia. Room temperatures fluctuate seasonally and nightly, and the interaction between onesie fabric, TOG-rated sleep sacks, and ambient temperature is non-obvious—especially for first-time parents sleep-deprived at 4am.
A mobile app that takes current room temperature (entered manually or pulled from a connected smart home device) and the baby's age/weight, then recommends the exact clothing layer and sleep sack TOG combination needed. The app provides a clear safe/unsafe indicator, explains the reasoning, and sends proactive alerts if room temperature drifts outside the safe window overnight.
Smart home thermostats and baby monitors with temperature sensors are now mainstream, creating a natural integration layer that didn't exist five years ago. Post-pandemic, a wave of new parents is highly research-driven and app-native, actively seeking data-backed reassurance tools for infant care.
I think my baby runs warm and I’m really worried about her at night. Right now she’s sleeping in a long sleeve onesie and a Love To Dream newborn sleep swaddle, but when I just changed her diaper her chest was 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Her forehead was 98.8 though so I know she doesn’t have a fever, I just think she’s too hot when sleeping. Her chest gets super warm to the touch but her head stays cool. Do I move her to a short sleeve onesie instead? I’m a first time mom and my husband and I are just learning how to do everything as we go. She doesn’t seem fussy while sleeping and her cheeks don’t get red, but I’m still very nervous. That just seems too hot for comfort. She was born a month early and is about 2.5 weeks old now so I’m already nervous about her health (though she’s super healthy for being born at 35w6d, didn’t even need NICU time!) Any advice is helpful! Thanks!
So the 4 month sleep regression has happened. That ended a while ago. I know this because we started getting good sleep again. But lately they’ve been unbearably bad- like placing her in the crib and she wakes every 30 mins. Want to note that we’re having a cold spell here in Ontario. We keep the room pretty hot (23/24 degrees) and she’s wearing a sleeper plus a 2.5 TOG. Sounds like a lot, I know. But she just woke up and her back and chest were slightly cool to me. Is it possible that she’s getting cold?? I’m painfully aware of the saying “cold babies cry, hot babies die” so I’m afraid of making her warmer. But does that sound like the possible solution here? Help me feel a little more sane pleaaaaase haha
I’m very sure we’re going through the four month regression. But im wondering if my baby could be cold causing her to wake up. She’s always been a warm baby since birth. She’s fussy and when she is she tends to sweat. Her room is 18-19 degrees Celsius. She wears a short sleeve romper and her regular clothes (pants and sweater) with a 0.5 sleeping bag without arms. Is this too cold even for a baby who sweats quickly?
I always worry about my baby overheating so I always have the aircon set at 22 degrees since he was born (he’s now 11 weeks old). I dress him most of the nights with short long sleeve onesie and 1.0 to sleep suit. I just feel like some nights we could probably get away with just the fan as it’s becoming abit colder now in Perth but I just can’t sleep and keep overthinking... Does anyone feel the same way? What is everyone’s room temperature for baby to sleep at night and what are you dressing them in?
Hi baby was sleeping in a love to dream swaddle with just a diaper under but started showing signs of rolling and we decided to remove it. For past couple nights baby has just been sleeping with the footed onesie but I’m wondering if I should add the sleep sack.. I found a 1.0 tog Bamboo one kyte baby and a .5 tog cotton one halo. If I decided to incorporate the swaddle I would use a modal fabric onesie long sleeve which is lighter than the cotton one. He has been sleeping terribly the past couple days Wakes up to feed but will not go back to sleep for a while after. Also air seems to hit pretty close to where he sleeps when it turns on. I have such a fear of overheating so ive been really skeptical..
