25M part-time workers and students in US seeking flexible supplementary income
The Problem

Workers with unpredictable primary income streams (students, seasonal workers, gig workers) struggle to find supplementary jobs that pay well without requiring full-time commitment or open availability. Traditional part-time jobs demand 30+ hours weekly with fixed schedules, while typical gig economy platforms offer low wages. These workers need the ability to drop in and out of work as their primary commitments fluctuate, while still earning competitive hourly rates.

What is a good job that I can work at as needed throughout the year (40+ hours)?

Im working in commercial tile and make good money, benefits etc. but I am constantly laid off for months at a time. I cant really rely on unemployment to make enough money. The temporary lay off between jobs is very unpredictable, could be a week, a month, a couple months.. I would like to get a job that I could continually return to if there is such a thing so I dont have to give up my tile career. I am still in my apprenticeship so I cant really lead my own side jobs yet.. any insight/advice???

Do high-paying part time jobs exist?

I have never been a 9-5 person. Don’t get me wrong— when things get tight, I can lock in for short bursts, put my head down, and do what needs done. But it’s soul-crushing. I can *either* work a full-time job *or* take care of myself and my home. I don’t last long in full-time roles. I have found a great job that I love. I work 3-4 days a week selling merchandise at events, and earn between $800-2500 per weekend. However, it’s not every weekend. We have our busy season where I’m booked straight through, we have some months with only 2-3 events, and in the summer it slows down dramatically to one a month if any. My solution to that this past summer was to go get a temporary contracted 60hr/wk job. I barely made it through the whole summer, was crying in strangers’ garages in 90° heat more days than not, and I probably made $30k, give or take some for rent and taxes. That would have been pretty good if my car didn’t blow up two weeks in— I was upside down so I had to pay $9500 to get rid of it, and my new loan is $200/mo higher (much better interest rate this time, at least). So I pretty much went out there just to make enough money to stay afloat, when my intention was to save up and supplement my winter income. I’m still in a tight spot pretty much breaking even every month (after automatic savings & investments). Next summer I want to start a business utilizing the skills I’ve learned at the job I still have and enjoy. I have faith it will succeed, but it’s going to involve ~$3500 startup capital. So I find myself again needing some supplementary income. I keep looking at part time jobs but they seem to all want open availability, or a commitment of around 30 hours a week. And even if I was willing to do that, they typically pay pennies. I’m not willing to sacrifice my weekend gig for anything at this point, so how do I find something that will let me work around that schedule?

Jobs while attending college?

Hey y’all 21 m I’m currently looking for a job in the Dfw area. I’ll be attending tcc in the spring to work towards my Bachelors of Arts. I’ve been working in a hydraulic shop for the past 2 years, and the schedules just wouldn’t line up for me to continue my education, so I was just wondering if anyone knows anyone or anywhere hiring more part time jobs that still pay semi good. I currently live alone with just myself and my girlfriend, so I can’t afford to take a massive pay loss. Any help would be appreciated.
