Cross-border workers and expats in Belgium face extreme complexity when filing taxes: understanding residency status changes, applying tax treaties, reporting foreign income correctly, and meeting tight deadlines. Current solutions like generic accountants and government portals are often unavailable, unclear, or don't handle multi-country scenarios, leading to costly errors and compliance risks.

I know I won't be taxed because there's a tax agreement and my origin country already taxed me on this income. But do I need to tell Belgium about the income anyway? It's a bit of a hassle, so I'm inclined to not, unless I absolutely have to?
Hey everyone, I'm really struggling with my 2024 Belgian tax return and could use some help or advice. My accountant is currently unavailable and the deadline is in 3 days... Here’s my situation: * I’m a **non-EU citizen**. * I moved to **Belgium in April 2024** and started working here the same month. * Before that, I was doing an **internship in Luxembourg**, which lasted until **March 2024**. * I already got a **2023 tax return from Luxembourg** for that internship. * This is my first Belgian tax return and I’m not sure how to handle the transition between countries. According to the **simplified return**, I was expecting around **€3,000** back. But then: * If I declare the **Luxembourg income (Jan–March 2024)** in **Section O, field 1250 + item 2 (foreign income)**, my refund drops to **€1,500**. * If I also correctly indicate that I was a Belgian resident for **9 months** (field 6: "Si, durant l’année des revenus..."), the refund drops again to just **€400**. * I read [this Reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/BEFire/comments/1ls4l50/moved_to_belgium_in_late_2024_do_i_need_to_report/) which says that you **don’t have to report foreign income earned before becoming a Belgian resident** – and since I only became a resident in April, that seems to apply to me. So here are my **main questions**: 1. Do I really have to declare the Luxembourg internship income from Jan–March 2024 in my Belgian return, if I wasn’t yet a Belgian resident? 2. Is it correct to indicate 9 months of residency (April–December)? 3. Do I also need to file a **Luxembourg tax return for 2024**, since I worked there for 3 months? Honestly, I feel like this would be a quick fix with a good accountant, but I can’t get one last-minute for less than €200+ for a short call. If you know anyone that could help, let me know :) If anyone has gone through something similar or has some advice, I’d be super grateful 🙏
Hi, if this post isn't allowed here, please let me know and I'll remove it. I just received my tax calculation and it says I need to pay back €1500. This is fine, but I'm not sure if the calculation itself is correct. I worked as a cross-border worker (living in Belgium, working in the Netherlands) for 10 months in 2024. I earned around €35,000 during that time, which was my total income for the year. However, when I look at the tax documents, I see that the Netherlands taxed me on €28,563 and Belgium taxed me on €24,563. This seems to suggest a total income of €56,123, which is much higher than what I actually earned. My question is: am I misunderstanding something? Do those amounts represent something other than taxable income? Or have I been taxed as if I earned more than I actually did? Thanks in advance for any clarification! https://preview.redd.it/m9fyh7e3yfhf1.png?width=587&format=png&auto=webp&s=92096fb193cccb5c1d4ecf7e0260dd9cb6d17c62 https://preview.redd.it/updpa7e3yfhf1.png?width=740&format=png&auto=webp&s=b2696ef5751e6d22483c930347592f269566d07c
Hello, I wonder if someone can help. I am filing my 2024 Belgium Tax as a non-resident. I was a resident in Belgium until June 2024 when I became a resident in the Netherlands. I calculated that 72% of my income was earned in Belgium for that year based on gross salary from Belgium and the Netherlands. Therefore I selected 1079 for box 3. This seems to be incompatible with something, perhaps my dienstencheques and pensioensparen as I receive errors also here. Can anyone provide any insights or help? Cheers
