The Problem

California property owners face insurance cancellations and skyrocketing premiums due to blunt risk classifications (fire/flood zones) that don't reflect actual property conditions. Climate change is accelerating these issues, while insurers provide poor communication about inspections and requirements, leaving owners unable to find affordable coverage for legitimate risks like earthquakes, coastal erosion, and flood exposure.

Potential Solution

A data-driven marketplace that uses satellite imagery, elevation models, and building-specific factors to generate accurate risk profiles. The platform connects owners with niche insurers covering their actual risk level, provides automated policy monitoring for inspection deadlines, and includes tools to challenge misclassifications with insurers and regulators.

Why Now?

California's insurance crisis is intensifying as major carriers exit high-risk areas and climate disasters increase. New state regulations and the growing FAIR plan burden create urgency for alternative solutions that use better data to unlock private insurance markets.
