The Problem

Companies frequently promote capable individual contributors without teaching them how to manage people. These new managers must suddenly handle goals, delegation, feedback, accountability, development, and differing employee needs, while internal peer training may inhibit candid discussion and practice.

Potential Solution

Deliver a six-week external practice cohort for newly promoted managers from noncompeting companies. Participants rehearse one-on-one meetings, delegation, feedback, performance conversations, and team planning using live scenarios, then apply each routine at work with facilitator review. Employers receive an onboarding assessment, manager playbook, and structured follow-up session without exposing confidential employee details.

Why Now?

Multiple recent signals describe management as a learned, highly leveraged capability while emphasizing that employees are still being promoted without preparation. An external cohort gives employers a practical training option without building an internal management academy.

How to Stop Avoiding Difficult Conversations: 6 Signs It's You
No Bullsh!t Leadership

You think you have to be kind to them. You think you shouldn't say anything negative to them. You even tell yourself that you're going to attract more bees with honey than you were with vinegar. So you soften the blow of difficult feedback. Now, one common technique is the shit sandwich. I'm sure none of you have ever used this, of course, but here's how it works. You don't want the person to feel bad. So you position the tough message in between two beautifully buttered slices of soft white bread. And the feedback then sounds like this. You know, you're doing a great job. You're awesome. This thing over here isn't good. But don't worry, because you're awesome.

How long were you bad at your job before you were fired?
A lot of people confuse struggling with actually being bad at the job. Six months isn’t necessarily enough to judge that, especially when someone is actively learning and improving. Clear feedback from a manager can make a big difference before assuming the worst.

Something I like to do too, is I like to have a skill or say, Hey, you are a senior leader and push back on me, push back on my ideas. I prompted to push back and give me a constructive feedback. Don't just say like, Hey, cause oftentimes it'll be, Oh, this is awesome. This is great. You're, you're on the right track. I think that's a good thing to keep in mind.
