The Problem

Banking customers face unexpected annual fees, unauthorized insurance deductions, and inconsistent interest reporting that create tax compliance nightmares. Manual monitoring across multiple institutions is impractical, and grievance resolution loops are endless. Users lack visibility into loan terms, maturity dates, and hidden charges that cost them thousands.

Potential Solution

An AI-powered financial monitoring platform that connects via open banking APIs to continuously scan transactions across all accounts, automatically detect anomalies and unauthorized charges, generate tax-ready interest statements, monitor loan maturity dates, and provide evidence packages for grievance escalation. The system alerts users in real-time and helps optimize EMI consolidation options.

Why Now?

Open banking regulations (PSD2, India's UPI ecosystem) now enable secure, standardized financial data access. Rising interest rates and increased regulatory scrutiny on bank mis-selling practices have amplified consumer demand for transparency and automated financial protection.

Have you ever charged for annual debit card fees ?
r/FireJan 7, 2026

I found out about my debit card’s annual fee the same way most people do—by accident. One lazy afternoon, I opened my bank app to check my balance before ordering food. I wasn’t broke… but something felt off. A chunk of money was missing. No shopping. No bill payment. Just a neat, emotionless entry staring back at me: **“Debit Card Annual Charges – ₹787.”** ₹787. That number hit harder than it should have. Here’s the irony—I barely even *use* my debit card anymore. UPI does the heavy lifting. Net banking pays the bills. The card itself? It just lives in my wallet like a retired employee. Still, somehow, it decided to charge me rent. No SMS. No app notification. No gentle “Hey, your annual fee is coming up.” Just gone. I tried to calm myself. “It’s just ₹787,” I said. But that’s the trap. That’s exactly the amount designed to make you sigh and move on instead of asking questions. ₹787 this year. ₹787 last year. ₹787 next year. Add it up, and suddenly you’ve paid thousands for a card you rarely swipe. So I went digging—not Google digging, bank-app digging. Endless menus. Microscopic links. A PDF so boring it felt intentional. And there it was, hiding in formal, friendly-looking language: *Annual charges apply unless specific criteria are met.* Criteria no one clearly explains when you open the account. Criteria no one reminds you about. Criteria you discover only **after** the money is already deducted. I checked with friends. Same story everywhere. Different banks, different amounts, same silent deduction. One friend paid less. Another paid more. Everyone was annoyed. No one was surprised anymore. That’s when it clicked. This isn’t really about ₹787. It’s about how small-but-not-small amounts slip through because we’re busy and told this is “normal banking.” I didn’t close my account. I didn’t spend an hour arguing with customer care. But I did start reading my bank statements properly. Because banks don’t take money with noise. They take it quietly. And if you’re not paying attention, your balance keeps answering for you. 🔗 **Full breakdown / how to avoid or recover debit card annual charges:** [newsfinance24.com/.../debit-card-annual-fee-re...](newsfinance24.com/.../debit-card-annual-fee-re...)

Banks not reporting savings interests for 23-24 to HMRC. But banks have reported savings interest for 24-25 to HMRC.
Jan 7, 2026

- Higher rate tax payer - Over £500 bank interest earned but less than £10,000 - Fully employed, self assessment not required. Tax via PAYE - Chase bank & Lloyds (both reported for 24-25 but did not report for 23-24) I’ve got tax calculation from HMRC in Nov 25 stating the amount of tax I owe from bank saving interest for both banks for 24-25. I’ve looked back for 23-24 and realised I did not receive a similar calculation. There is no information regarding savings interest at all. Called HMRC and they confirmed they have received nothing from the banks. Called Chase and they said it is automatically sent to HMRC. There is conflicting information here. 1) how do I pay tax I owe on my bank interest for 23-24? 2) is there a way to pay this back without having to do tax return? (I do not qualify for tax return anyways) 3) is this classed as overdue payment hence I will be penalized on the tax owed? 4) is there a delay of some sort for 23-24 and this will be automatically sorted out in the near future without me doing anything?

#HELP HDFC Gold Loan #HELP
Jan 7, 2026

Hello everyone, I currently have an ongoing gold loan with HDFC for an amount of 30 lakh rupees, for which I am paying interest EMI every month. I have received a message from HDFC that the loan will be maturing by March 2026 and they want me to settle the principal amount. I have been paying interest every month for the loan without issues, however currently I am unable to raise such a huge amount in a short span of time & will require about 1 year to arrange the funds. What are my available options??

TL;DR – SBI home loan users, please audit your loan statements
r/indianrealestateJan 7, 2026

1️⃣ ₹1L+ deducted as “property insurance” without consent • Loan was for an empty plot • No construction ever started • I explicitly declined insurance • No proposal / consent / policy at time of deduction • Policy shared recently after several follow ups insures the wrong property. • GRO emails unanswered; refund promised once, never processed. Every new email is auto-generated with a ticket id which is never followed up. This is never ending loop. • On each and every verbal follow ups, they claim property insurance is mandatory as per RBI regulations which is utter lie. 2️⃣ Interest rates revision only after chasing (several time in last \~10 years). Latest follow up ongoing since 1.5 months without any results wherein: • Still paying \\\~9% on two SBI loans of \\\~₹2.5 Cr. 1% high= ₹2.5L/year loss. This is a significant financial impact in long run on high value loan. Unless I wake up which is always too late I keep bearing these losses. Another pain is to get them revised to market rates which eats up several hours in follow-ups. • While HDFC Bank loan taken in 2022 is at 7.25% auto-revised on every rbi announcement. (not advertising, just experience) Being an NRI, escalation is extremely difficult. 👉 Has anyone else faced forced insurance or rate revision delays with State Bank of India? I can bet that 80% of Home-loans via SBI has hidden property insurance (at least my all loans had similar issues) by their sister organization Sbi General Insurance. Check yours. Thinking of Shifting homeloan to other bank but it takes lots of documentation and doesn’t guarantee refund of illegal insurance. Just tell me 👍 All claims supported by documents.
