The Problem

Condo and apartment residents face unpredictable utility bills ($200+/month for 600 sq ft), opaque delivery fees, and inefficient heating systems (storage heaters costing £6-8/day) with no visibility into what's driving costs. Tenants can't identify waste sources, while property managers struggle with maintenance coordination and justifying high fees ($580/month), leading to financial shock and landlord-tenant conflicts.

Potential Solution

A SaaS platform that integrates with smart meters and IoT sensors to provide real-time energy monitoring, AI-driven anomaly detection for bill auditing, appliance-level usage breakdowns, predictive cost forecasting, and automated heating optimization. Offers dual dashboards for tenants (cost control) and property managers (maintenance alerts, benchmarking) to reduce expenses by 15-30%.

Why Now?

Energy costs have surged 40% since 2020, smart meter adoption exceeds 70% in urban areas, and new rental transparency regulations require detailed utility disclosures, creating urgency for automated cost management solutions.

Is it normal to pay $200+ per month on utilities in a 600 square foot condo?
r/TorontoRealEstateDec 4, 2025

Hi all, I recently started renting in central Toronto. I am shocked by how high my utilities bill is. My delivery fees are $50+ (bill attached). As well, in addition to my electricity usage, I have over $60 of thermal fees. I have friends who are renting in similar buildings in Toronto who are paying half of what I pay with similar usage. My building uses Wyse Meter. Is this normal? How much do you typically pay in delivery fees? Thanks so much for your help! :) preview.redd.it/.../qokfftuh9yuf1.png

Can A 1 Bedroom Apartment Using 45KWH to 50KWH A Day? OVO Energy are saying the meter reading is accurate and won't send anybody out to check it.
r/UKPersonalFinanceDec 4, 2025

Hi, I've been quoted by OVO energy that I am currently using 45 to 50KWH of energy a day. We have a Economy Boiler 7 which we use at a night rate. We also have two storage heaters which we have switched on. This is due to owning reptiles and needing the ambient temperature to remain above 20C. We can't seem to figure out what's causing it to be this high? I know storage heaters are costly, but surely this is insane? Most of the day neither me or my partner are in the building, and we are conscious of electricity use. Has anyone got some tips or tricks? Or is it really an issue with the storage heaters?

No hot water for 48 hours and no heating in my room please help🙏🏼
r/HousingUKDec 4, 2025

We’ve had no hot water for a minimum of 48 hours and I only get heating in my room for an hour twice a week. My issue here is that this keeps happening on weekends where we get charged £50 per text and call to the landlords if we report it and I’m not sure on the legality of this. For reference, I’m a student. We do not have a thermostat as it’s in the office of the company that rents these houses to students and they have full control of the heating. Everyone else except me has heating in their room and my radiator is not broken. They put it on for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening every day. The main bathroom always has issues with hot water in the evenings but now we’ve been days without (as well as in the kitchen and in the two en suite sinks, there’s two en suites for a 6 bed house). We’re not allowed to contact the landlords out of hours (9-4:30pm Monday-Thursday) or else £50 gets taken out of our account through direct debit. The company that supplies our water is closed until tomorrow and has been since we noticed the issue. Maintenance won’t answer the phone. I’m pretty sure the issue is the thermostat because the landlords did say they needed to buy a new one soon anyway. I’ve checked the boiler and the gas water heater and all is fine but I might not be checking for the right things. I’ve had to call in sick to work because my gym is also closed down and I can’t shower to get into work and it’s been days. I can’t sleep because the house is so cold any advice would be appreciated especially on the contact methods we’ve been given.
