Consumers are losing significant money to forgotten subscriptions after moving or changing circumstances, unauthorized recurring charges from companies that auto-enroll users, and retroactive billing adjustments they never agreed to. These charges often go unnoticed for months, and cancellation processes are deliberately difficult, requiring in-person visits or navigating complex verification systems.
A financial monitoring tool that connects to bank accounts and credit cards to automatically identify recurring charges, flag new subscriptions, detect unusual billing patterns (like retroactive adjustments or unauthorized re-charges after cancellations), and provide one-click dispute templates. The tool would maintain a database of known problematic companies and their cancellation requirements, alerting users to potential issues before they escalate.
Subscription fatigue has reached a peak with the average consumer managing 12+ recurring payments. Regulatory bodies are increasingly scrutinizing dark patterns and auto-renewal practices, creating both consumer awareness and potential compliance requirements that make proactive monitoring valuable.

I’m posting this as a warning and to sanity-check if anyone’s experienced something similar. I booked a flight through eDreams in November. The flight was later cancelled by the airline (Kenyan Airways), and Kenyan Airways confirmed that a refund was viable, but eDreams refused to process it. Because I urgently needed to travel, I was forced to book another flight. I then requested a chargeback through my bank for the original booking. After this, I removed my card from eDreams entirely. Despite that, months later — while the dispute was still ongoing — eDreams charged my card again for R16,444, without my permission. The charge only appeared in January but was backdated to the original November transaction date, and marked as a POS purchase, even though I obviously wasn’t present and did not authorise anything. This second charge: • was for a different amount • was not processed via Apple Pay like the original booking • occurred months after I removed my card from their system • happened with no notification or consent My bank is now treating this as an unauthorised transaction, but I’m honestly shocked that a company can charge a card months later — after it’s been removed — and backdate it as if it happened on the original date. Has anyone else experienced this with eDreams or another OTA? Any advice appreciated.
Hello, I have a problem and I don’t know how to solve it. A few weeks ago, I bought some tickets to Italy for myself and a friend. I searched on Skyscanner and found some tickets at a very good price. I bought them through the same app, apparently via Opodo, which is basically eDreams under another name. I didn’t have an issue with that, since I’ve bought tickets this way before and everything was fine. I was careful not to click on any weird buttons and I just bought the tickets. Everything was fine until this morning, when I saw that there was an attempted charge of 100 euros on my card from the merchant eDreams. Luckily, I didn’t have any money on the card at that moment. I logged into my eDreams and Opodo accounts to check whether I had subscribed to something without realizing it, but there was nothing. I actually just created the account now, using the same email address where I received the flight confirmation from them. Indeed, in the email it looks like I placed the order as part of Prime, but if I go into the account, it asks me whether I would like to join Prime. What could I do? Thanks in advance! Edit: My main concern is that I’m afraid they might cancel the flight and I could lose both my money and my friend’s money. On top of that, I used my main card, thinking it was a safe and trustworthy transaction…
I noticed a $9.99 charge on my credit card the other day. Uber in Sydney. I am not even in the state. I reported online, then called the bank. They knew exactly what it was. Obviously has been happen alot lately. Uber has been inserting a condition into their terms that you automatically sign up, despite my repeated rejections. The bank person on the phone doubted that I would get my money back, but it was still pending. So I cancelled the card on the spot and getting am sent a new one. I shifted the profit from Uber to a cost on the Bank. Hopefully the Bank will learn. Also if this is wide spread I see a class action in the wings. I rejected Uber One membership so many times.
Help, my Ovo bills have retroactively had £2,500+ bills retroactively whacked onto the account! I checked my Ovo account to pay my latest bill, and it looked as it should (around £150 for electricity and gas). However, I was also suddenly £2,500+ in debit for ALREADY PAID BILLS. The bills had been altered to suddenly add hundreds of pounds in gas usage to old bills, including for a month where I didn’t even have my heating working. I’ve taken screenshots of everything for my current bill in case it gets altered later, but I have absolutely not used £2,500+ in gas since autumn, which is when I moved into the property. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on? Ovo told me over the phone that someone had come into my apartment to take a metre reading in December - they didn’t, I haven’t had anyone from Ovo into the apartment - after which the (very helpful and kind) assistant told me to check with my landlord what the metre reading was when I moved in, and what it is now. I haven’t lived alone before, so I was going with the estimates for electricity and gas, as my settings are temperamental and I don’t tend to touch them for risk of damaging them - landlord has said they will fix it once it actually goes on the fritz, but for now they operate alright if I leave it alone. Again, these Ovo bills are retroactive revisions on already paid bills - my current bills looks alright. These are £2,500+ of retroactive charges on already paid bills for gas costs that are over and above impossible for me to have used. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. This is a total fckery of a situation!
