The Problem

Parents of infants constantly struggle to dress their babies appropriately for sleep as room temperatures fluctuate throughout the night. Generic online charts give conflicting advice about TOG ratings and clothing layers, leaving caregivers guessing — resulting in babies waking up sweaty, cold, or unsettled and parents losing sleep from anxiety and repeated nighttime check-ins.

Potential Solution

A mobile app paired optionally with a room sensor (or integrating with existing smart home devices) that tracks real-time room temperature changes and delivers instant, personalized clothing recommendations using a baby's age, weight, and observed heat tendencies. The app learns from parent feedback ('baby was sweaty tonight') to refine suggestions over time and sends proactive alerts when room temperature shifts cross a comfort threshold requiring a clothing change.

Why Now?

Smart home device adoption is surging and new parents are increasingly tech-forward, yet baby sleep safety tooling remains primitive — dominated by static PDF charts and generic blog posts. Safe sleep awareness campaigns have heightened parental anxiety around overheating (a SIDS risk factor), creating urgent demand for a reliable, personalized solution.

Baby temperature
r/NewParentsApr 27, 2026

I have a 3 month old and feel like I’m often worried about his body temperature. I’m always checking his back or chest to see if he’s warm enough and not too hot. The room we are in tends to lean pretty warm so we have a standing fan we keep on in addition to our ceiling fan. Both at medium levels. With the room being at 72F right now, are a short sleeve onesie and a .5tog sleep sack okay? His chest and hands are warm, but his arms get so cold. I just worry about him getting too warm in a long sleeve onesie. Any suggestions? I know I’m probably too stressed about it lol, but I need some reassurance, especially with my postpartum anxiety.

Why is my baby so hot at night?
r/NewParentsApr 17, 2026

She is almost 15 months and I’ve noticed is ALWAYS hot at night like I can’t even put clothes on her or blankets she will be sweaty and when I move her and feel underneath her it’s hot. If I’m holding her and she falls asleep on me she’s like a little furnace and my clothes will be wet with her sweat. I’m like wth we are in the same room I’m fully clothes and need blankets (granted I run cold) but daaang like is this normal?? She is healthy btw like never have had any issues with her she’s happy and no fever or anything.

Baby’s Room Temp Changes
r/NewParentsApr 17, 2026

I’m currently overthinking this significantly, I’m sure. My baby’s room temperature shifts every night. It has been starting out HOT and without putting the AC in the window (which I’ll make the spouse do soon), there hasn’t been much I could do about it. Tonight the room temperature was reading 76 degrees. I could leave a window cracked and it’ll drop fast fast and I’ll have to go in and change his clothes. Or (what I did) I leave his door open with and adjacent room window open so he can get some fresh air vicariously and have it drop slowly, so hopefully I don’t have to add a layer until he’s waking for a feed. I have him in a single layer lightweight sleeper right now, but it is long sleeve. Baby struggled to fall asleep, as he still has to cuddle to sleep and that just made him hotter. I had to undo his sleeper and cool him down before he could sleep. But then he’s on his own in the crib without my warmth, so I hope he’s okay? He whined once but didn’t need help resettling. I just don’t understand how we’re supposed to dress baby when the temperature of the room is for sure going to drop over night. I try to follow those charts, it the last one I saw has wildly varying recommendations over a 3 degree difference. Ex. The chart I see now says “over 75 = diaper plus .5 tog sleep sack”, then “75= short sleeve onesie plus .5 tog sack”, then 70-75 is “long sleeve sleeper plus .5 tog sleep sack” (or possibly below 73 could be long sleeve plus 1 tog sack). I’m going crazy and all I can think of right now as I try to fall asleep is “cold babies cry, hot babies die”. Someone please tell me my baby will be fine until he wakes up to feed. I’m spiraling.

How do I make sure my 3mo is warm enough ?
r/ParentingApr 12, 2026

We are coming into cooler months now but still warm during the day and cold at night. Our room temp will start at 24 and by the morning the outside temp is 8-9 degrees Celsius. Right now to put the 2.5 tog sleep sack on him I have to turn our AC on to make the room below 20 otherwise it’s too warm for the 2.5 tog… otherwise putting a 1.0 tog and changing him during the night but don’t want to do that. I turn it off once the room is cool enough. currently sitting here at 4am after a dream feed and he’s been waking up what feels every hour fussing … I put the pacifier back in and he goes back to sleep for a bit and does it again. I try to feel his neck and chest and they don’t feel super warm but not stone cold so not sure if he’s warm enough but don’t want to over heat him.. can someone assist with words of advice?

Sleep temperature
Apr 8, 2026

Hello! I’m a ftm to a 4 month old and I’m a bit stuck about sleep temperatures and what not. I live in Australia and the weather is starting to cool at night.. my baby has eczema around the arms and neck and I find when she’s in long sleeves it flares up.. I try and keep her in a short sleeve with a sleep bag, but I’m worried she’s getting cold. What is a good temperature for the room? Often I find ours is around 17-21 at night.. should I keep the heater on to maintain a temp of around 20 degrees?? I just don’t want her over heating but I also don’t want her to get cold..
