Taxpayers waste money on accountants for simple returns while others miss deductions doing it themselves. People struggle to assess their situation's true complexity, fear overpaying, and can't easily find trustworthy accountants. This leads to either costly professional help for basic filings or costly mistakes from DIY attempts on moderately complex situations.
An AI-powered tool that scans financial documents to assess tax complexity, generates a 'DIY vs Pro' recommendation with confidence scoring, and matches complex cases with pre-vetted accountants offering fixed-price quotes. For simpler cases, it provides step-by-step guidance and deduction identification to maximize refunds without professional fees.
AI document analysis has matured dramatically, tax laws are increasingly complex post-pandemic with remote work and side hustles, and consumers now demand price transparency in professional services. The gig economy has created millions with non-standard tax situations needing clarity.
It’s an awful idea. Taxes aren’t black and white. Good accountants are great at tailoring your returns to your business and risk tolerance. AI can’t do that and probably never will. What you can do effectively is feed the finished returns before they’re submitted and ask Anthropic Claude Code or open AI Codex to look at the returns and see if they make mathematical sense - ie the numbers from the different businesses correctly flow together.
be highlighted if your income has risen or fallen in abnormal ways or the seasonality is in all of these things are bought to bear in the tool such that instead of spending all their time rifling through your shoebox of receipts and trying to figure out where your w-2s and your k-1s and your 1099s are all of that is automated using the agents and that first draft of the return is the first time they have to really interact and they're basically spending their time checking and validating the output and also it prompts advisory ideas for them to provide to you so in other words dan going into the next tax filing system you should think about the following changes in behavior and the following investments or cost reductions in order to optimize your tax position going forward and so it's it's both a automatic validation tool and a prompt but also a prompt of advisory ideas that they should discuss with you at the conclusion of the tax filing process yeah this is interesting from a product development standpoint on your folks end it's really understanding what are these tax prep professionals what are the things they need to answer anyway and then how do we take the human judgment at scale data and productize that because there's hypothetically an infinite number of questions you could ask but you you folks have to define what are the ones tax professionals need and then the the draft product needs to really suit that channel of like where it's actually going to drive value because these tools are so powerful in a general sense so that's helpful final quick thing to close on your other example here just again we're bringing this back around to make it applicable for the audience you mentioned somebody used to bounce something back and forth with their room full of folks and now they can do a lot of that with an ai i mean really we're we're abstracting what are the people around the room well their brains that have their own little weights that have been tipped and tinkered with by by a thousand legal case if you have you know a million of those brains that all have their thousand use cases where you know a huge preponderance of what has been learned has been pulled up to the ceiling that at some point we're you know legal cases are sort of like whose ai is stronger on some level like it seems like so the portion like
FYI, I got 45 dollars back in my tax return last year. Some further info, I don't have health insurance and so the medicare levy really bites into my returns. I'm thinking of getting an accntant to help me with my tax returns this year so I can get more back. It would be so nice to get at least 1K back this year for my savings. I've always filed my tax returns myself, but i've had co workers around me saying its worth getting a professional to assist so I can get more back. I've never done this in my life- how do you do it, what is involved and whats their commission with the job? If i am going to get a pretty low tax return, how do they even get paid if they take a portion of your tax return? Total noob here, please explain it all to me !!
My partner and I both work PAYG jobs, nothing crazy. We have 1 IP that will hopefully be finished building before the end of financial year. A very small share portfolio that i think i carried forward losses with. Is it worth seeing an Accountant? I'm sure they are busy with much bigger fish so I'd rather not waste their time. Advice please 🙏 EDIT: Thanks all for the advice! I think i might go see a professional and develop a contact. Who knows, they might show me how easy (or hard!) it is and I might do it myself the next year. Cheers!
