A polished, ad-free music player that unifies your local library with free streaming sources, offline downloads, and synced lyrics — no subscription required.
Added Apr 28, 2026
Millions of users are canceling Spotify subscriptions due to rising costs and intrusive ads, but can't find a free alternative that matches its UI? quality, offline playback, and music organization features. Existing open-source players like ViMusic and RiMusic are often abandoned, broken, or lack polish. Users are left piecing together multiple apps just to get basic features like album browsing, synced lyrics, and cross-device access.
A fully-featured, ad-free mobile and desktop music app that combines a local music library manager with integration to free/legal streaming sources (YouTube Music, SoundCloud, etc.), offering offline downloads, synchronized lyrics, smart playlists, and a modern Spotify-inspired UI?. Optional self-hosted backend sync (similar to Navidrome) lets power users stream their own collection across devices without a subscription.
Spotify's aggressive price hikes and ad frequency increases in 2024-2025 have triggered a mass exodus of users actively seeking alternatives, creating a large, motivated, underserved audience. The rise of self-hosting culture and open-source tools has primed users to adopt polished local-first alternatives.

Built this open source, self hosted Spotify downloader & player. Runs on my Hetzner Server with my favourite music + recommended similar music (just like Spotify). You can also download songs so you can run them offline on your phone. Optimised for mobile too. [github.com/.../spotifree-player](github.com/.../spotifree-player)
**The Problem:** Music is one of the things people do most on their Mac, yet macOS offers surprisingly few ways to control it. The system provides only basic playback controls, with no rich mini player or customizable music widget that works across your favorite apps **Liqoria** is not just a controller for apps like Apple Music, Spotify, and your browsers it’s also a standalone music player for Mac. You can search for songs, manage your playing queue, and control everything from one place. **Features:** * **Five player modes:** Floating player, Dock player, Notch Player , Menu Bar player and Lock Screen player * **Liquid Glass Dynamic Island Player** * **Apple Music Sync Lyrics:** Like, Shuffle, Repeat * **Up Next -** Show you the upcoming song few seconds before start * **Built-in Spotify and Apple Music Queue management Support** * **Real FFT waveform:** inspired by the Dynamic Island * **Multiple players at once:** View a list of all your active music players in one place * **Search in Spotify and Apple Music -** * **Apple Music queue management** * **Animated artwork** for Apple Music on float and lock screen * **Music widget for Mac** * **Support multiples apps -** Handle music from Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Browsers and more **Comparison:** Apps like Silicio and Sleeve and Tunful are limited, mainly supporting Apple Music and Spotify without built-in search or full queue control. Seekify - Music Downloader and Player A music player you run on your own machine, and it also grabs the music you are missing. Search for a track or a whole album and it pulls it from Soulseek or YouTube, tags it, sorts it into your library, and it is ready to play. Paste a list of songs and it downloads them all. First time putting it out there. \- Downloads from Soulseek or YouTube \- Bulk import a whole list at once \- Tags and sorts your library for you \- Browse, play, queue, favorite \- Audio reactive WebGL2 visualizer \- Different scrubber bars to pick \- Colors shift to match the cover art \- Flags the rough stuff for you \- Admin settings for the important stuff Put your music in the music folder, open Seekify in a browser, press play. There are scripts in the scripts folder to build and run it (Mac, Linux, Windows). That is how you start it. It uses its own music folder for now, a location option is coming. Setup is a bit self guided, rough edges expected. Beta. Not great with version numbers, better changelog one day. What is in main is the app. Written in Go, vanilla JS and CSS, a little Python and shell. **Installing Seekify** GitHub: [github.com/.../seekify-musicplayer](github.com/.../seekify-musicplayer) Container: [github.com/.../seekify](github.com/.../seekify) **On Unraid:** Search "Seekify" in the Community Applications tab and install from there. **On plain Docker:** docker pull ghcr.io/sadoway7/seekify:latest docker run -d --name seekify -p 8081:8081 -v /path/to/music:/app/music ghcr.io/sadoway7/seekify:latest
Im looking for a music player that can download songs and play it offline, import playlists from spotify and YT music and is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes like apple music 🙏🙏
I feel like I need a new streaming app I want a fully free app, I don't mind ads and it that contains human curated music and playlists, with a focus on live and local content in or around my city. I want live content, and shows, tailored to my tastes, while allowing for expanded music discovery within your genre of taste. Everything I find feels fragmented, like there is a little bit of everything I want all over place.
