The Problem

People cutting weight or trying to recomposition often track food, weight, workouts, and body metrics across spreadsheets or consumer apps. The recurring frustration is that scale weight fluctuates, macro logging is tedious, and many apps add friction through accounts, paywalls, clutter, or poor progress interpretation. The buyer job is not just logging data, but knowing whether their current behavior is producing the desired body-composition trend.

Potential Solution

Start as a productized coaching and tracking service for recreational lifters who want a structured cut without hiring a full personal coach. The operator collects daily weigh-ins, food/protein adherence, workout completion, photos or measurements, and weekly subjective notes, then sends a concise weekly trend report with calorie, protein, and habit adjustments. Over time, repeatable report templates, intake forms, and trend calculations can become a lightweight product or hybrid software-enabled service.

Why Now?

AI food logging, phone health data, and smart scales make raw data easier to collect, but users still distrust bloated apps and need interpretation. The spike of indie builders attacking the same friction suggests demand, but also indicates that a pure app is highly competitive.

3 years of lifting led me to build my own tracker — looking for brutal honesty
r/SideProjectJul 12, 2026

[](preview.redd.it/.../3-years-of-lifting-led-m...) I'm a solo developer, not a fitness brand — this is a tracker I built for myself first, and I'm now testing whether it's actually useful to anyone else. I've been training for a few years and tried a bunch of workout apps along the way. Most of them worked fine, but I always found myself wishing certain things were done a little differently — mostly around how the workout flow feels and how progress is presented. So I started building my own app called Liftora. Not because everything else is bad, but because I had a specific vision for how I'd want a tracker to work for me. Here's what I focused on: * **A guided workout flow.** Instead of just logging after the fact, you move through your sets in real time. The app follows your pace. * **Low learning curve.** You shouldn't need a tutorial to figure out how to log a workout. I wanted someone to open it for the first time and just get it. * **Ready-made programs.** If you're new and don't know where to start, you can just pick a program and go — no need to build a routine from scratch on day one. * **Exercise videos during selection.** When you're picking exercises, each one has a short video attached. So even if you don't know the name of a movement, you can recognize it visually and see which muscle group it's actually targeting. * **Body metrics tracking, including body fat %.** Weight and measurements are tracked together, but body fat percentage is in there too — which matters because scale weight alone can be misleading. You could be gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time and the scale won't tell you that story, but tracking body fat % over time will. * **Calorie estimate after each workout.** Once you finish a session, the app gives you a ro...

I made a fitness app that tracks what you control daily instead of the scale
r/SideProjectJun 24, 2026

I'm 18 and built this mostly solo. It's called Resist. Came from my own cut. The scale barely moves day to day and just messes with your head, so this tracks the stuff you actually control — protein, training, whether you showed up. Those move first. The weight follows. It's also got an AI logger. You type "3 eggs and 200g paneer" and it works out the protein and calories. No scanning, no searching a database. That's the bit in the video. Android only right now (iOS is stuck in Apple review). Looking for a few people to use it a few days and tell me what's annoying or pointless. DM and I'll send it over. Nothing to buy, just want honest eyes on it before I push it further.
