Over the last few years, my job search experience has been crappy (to put it mildly). I can easily classify my entire experience into 3 major pain areas: 1. **Finding jobs late**: By the time I found out about a job that was perfect for me, it already had a few hundred applications (and this is with alerts on LinkedIn and other job portals). Imagine my surprise when I found out that there is a lag between a job being posted on a company website vs when the job actually shows up on LinkedIn or other forums 2. **The resume - job fitment gap**: I will look at a job, then try and model my resume to it based upon my read. Another hit and a miss.. And then as I looked at more jobs, I realized I cannot keep up with figuring out what needs to change in my resume to align with what the job description is asking for 3. **Job boards turning into social media (looking at you LinkedIn!)**: Well, this one is obvious. I used to pay premium for LinkedIn to expand my network and find relevant jobs at the same time. Network building still remains the biggest win for LinkedIn but the rest has become a social media slop. The fact that I need atleast a few clicks just to see the jobs is a major bummer. And then LinkedIn has the audacity to show me a week old job with a label saying "Be an early applicant". Dude, seriously?  So what did I do? Yep, I thought "why not just build something". Honestly the biggest shift for me was stopping the spray-and-pray approach and actually tailoring my resume to each job. More work upfront but the callback rate was noticeably better. The part that got tedious was rewriting the same bullets over and over. I started to handle that by using zoevera.com. It matches your resume to the job description and fills in the keyword gaps. Not a magic fix but it cuts the repetitive part down a lot if you're deep in an application grind.
