The initial business should sell implementation and managed operations rather than autonomous diagnosis.
Language models can now organize large clinical records and retrieve relevant medical guidance, while clinician burnout and administrative overload remain visible concerns. Keeping human review and judgment in the workflow makes adoption more practical than offering autonomous medical decisions.

And so it's been really nice to see those worlds collide. I've heard you talk about having lived the problem as a primary care physician. Maybe describe the role that AI can play to deliver better patient outcomes. I know it's a big part of the founding vision for counsel. Sure. So, you know, as a PCP, even at some of the, you know, what are considered the best medical centers, I still saw how much of getting it right depended on people being their best and doing their best every moment of the day. It felt like we were putting a lot of responsibility on people and their biases, their intelligence to sort of serve patients as well as possible. A lot of people have a lot of emphasis on their principles, on their memory. And even at the best medical centers, we saw many instances where that fell short. I remember being a PCP and having a medical assistant hand me a post-it note before every visit with the list of care gaps that that patient needed to close. I, you know, I remember, you know, scrolling feverishly before primary care visits to get caught up on the patient's medical history as you're running back-to-back between visits. Or even being asked questions by patients that, despite my best knowledge, I may not know the answer to or be familiar with, you know, questions about supplements, about, you know, lab tests that are not commonly interpreted. And what I think AI has sort of led us to believe and sort of the promise behind it is that we can augment human intelligence with machine intelligence in a way that covers a lot of knowledge gaps and allows patients to experience something that feels closer to perfect. And when we say this sort of pursuit of perfection in medicine, we're referring to a care experience that is extremely personalized, always available, and infinitely knowledgeable. So a system that knows you better than you know yourself, a system that's available to you at all times, not only when the doctor happens to be available, and a system that's knowledgeable enough to retain within itself kind of the entire landscape of medical knowledge, of information, of guidelines, much more than any one human could do. One of the things that stood out from a recent interview that I listened to with you was the humanness of the doctor side of the doctor-patient interaction.
There's something really magical that happens when patients come into the room, with doctors and that relationship of trust, of listening and of heart centered connection cannot be replaced by AI. And in fact, AI can do the work that allows us to continue to maintain these relationships, hopefully in a better way than we were able to before. So I see a bright future for doctors who can effectively learn how to, how to use AI.
And what I would expect is for the doctor to use their expertise to communicate with AI so that you as the patient know that nothing is getting missed, that the breadth of everything that this could be is being covered. And then you would want the doctor to sit there with you and help you understand what this all means so that you're developing the connection with the doctor while you know that everything else is being covered.
Absolutely. Thank you for that. I think AI is not going to replace doctors. And the reason why I say that is not because I don't see the capacity of or the increased potential in AI. In fact, I see it more than probably most doctors out there. The reason I say that is because AI is capable of diagnosis, capable of treatment decisions, but it is not capable of care, which means that AI might be able to diagnose a very rare disease. In fact, this was proven very recently at a larger university experiment where a well-known diagnostician was given a certain case, which was rare, and a large language model was given the same case and the same information.
