The Problem

People who receive suspicious sign-in alerts or lose control of an account often reuse passwords, lack multi-factor authentication, and do not know how to revoke active sessions. Securing a long list of Google, Microsoft, Apple, financial, shopping, and social accounts is stressful and error-prone, especially during a suspected attack.

Potential Solution

Offer a fixed-price, screen-shared account lockdown session in which a technician inventories critical accounts, prioritizes the primary email account, installs a password manager, replaces reused passwords, enables multi-factor authentication, and revokes unknown sessions. The customer retains control of credentials while the technician follows a documented checklist and provides a recovery plan for accounts requiring separate support or identity verification.

Why Now?

Consumers maintain decades-old account portfolios while credential leaks, phishing, and session theft make password reuse increasingly consequential. The signals also show a gap between widely repeated security advice and the practical help many people need to carry it out safely.

Person yeah more than likely not yeah and i think that's kind of most common like when people do call in and they're saying everything's hacked is like typically it's like their google account or some apple account and they don't have mfa set up on it and they're not familiar with how to go and secure those kind of things and you know just trying to inform people like what you should do is go change all your passwords put mfa on everything and see if that resolves it yeah especially too because like

Of other requests that we've been asked to do like securing all the accounts that is something that we can first help you with but that's one of those things where people can do that themselves yeah for the most part and what i always tell pretty much everyone that calls with these types of issues is change all of your passwords for every account no exceptions get last pass just start over completely change every single password but yeah or use any similar passwords at all him turn on multi-factor for everything and then any apps like cloud apps google microsoft apple revoke all your sessions from other devices and that we've seen is very successful at stopping these kinds of like low-level attacks that the average person is typically going to be right with

I think all of us in the profession have dealt with you know things like this before for sure you know i've gotten email notifications that somebody successfully signed in and i've gotten two factor codes that i don't expect and i remember being a kid and playing online games and getting a notification that somebody signed into my account from russia and you know trying to figure out what do i do about this right yeah i just lost my account like yeah like how do i stop this yeah but you know fortunately we have a little bit more understanding of how these things work than the average person and we're able to help at least fix those issues for ourselves and and attempt to help people fix them for themselves as well yeah and i think that's kind of one of the

It yeah that's what i was gonna i was gonna mention that a couple things that you could do if you know if you're in a situation where you feel like i'm you know i might be getting hacked or i'm definitely being hacked one again change all your account passwords set up in the fae on everything if you don't know how to do that i don't know google it geek squad you know something you've got a techie you know in your family have them look at it to help you turn off all your devices for 24 hours see if you know you have any issues or see if that helps you kind of disconnect for a little bit and then i think the most common one is like i use the same password for everything you know and i think that's super common too is if one person figures out an email address and a password well they're going to try it on anything that might be of value to them you know and so that tends to lead to a lot

Some of these people have had these accounts for like 20 years yeah they use the same password for everything it only takes one of those websites to get compromised and they reach and have your clear text password exposed there for you know everything else to crumble and it's only a matter of time before that happens yep so even if you haven't been hacked don't wait to do that if you're using the same password for everything go in and change them set up two factor on everything for sure yeah try to you know don't advertise a bunch of personal information if somebody reaches out to you and says hey what's your favorite color what city were you born in don't answer them you know pay attention to emails make sure that you're not getting phished because people can get into your accounts by stealing session tokens from from phishing attacks and just follow good basic cyber security hygiene
