Seeing as how good/bad compression is pretty subjective, make sure you check out Revolver by the Beatles. In particular, check out the drums on, "She Said She Said." You can decide for yourself if you think that's good or bad. But one thing's for sure, it's pretty obvious. (for the record, I like the overcompressed stuff on that record)

Good and bad are subjective in this discussion. 2 examples of egregious compression are: The Raspberries “Go all the Way” Chris Stapleton “White Horse” Go all the way is an old standard in this conversation and an interesting story to look into. The studio owner actually threw away the box that made that sound after it became a hit because he didn’t want shit like that coming out of his studio. The Stapleton one breathes with the music not against it. It’s a very dynamic track. Super compressed and pumpy but it’s not loud at all. (I’m talking about compression here not brick wall limiting) it’s very overdone but still very musical, whereas on the raspberries track, the compression fights against the track, which makes for a bubblegum song that comes off feeling kind of punk and raw to my ears I love both of these tracks but see why a lot of people wouldn’t.
