A production plugin that helps musicians hear, compare, and commit the right dynamic treatment for each track.

Self-producing musicians often apply compression because they believe it is required, even when samples and synthesizers are already heavily processed. Subtle changes are difficult to hear, louder output can make settings seem better, and whether compression is beneficial depends on the source and creative intent. This makes compression decisions slow, uncertain, and prone to damaging vocals, transients, groove, or the full mix.
Build an audio plugin that captures a source, automatically level-matches before-and-after playback, and creates exaggerated then production-strength comparisons of attack, release, ratio, and threshold choices. Workflow presets would focus on concrete jobs such as vocal leveling, transient shaping, drum pumping, and mix glue while also presenting an uncompressed or alternative-treatment option. The product should support real production decisions rather than merely delivering lessons.
More musicians are mixing their own releases with heavily processed sample packs and software instruments, making conventional advice to compress every source increasingly unreliable. Modern plugin processing can provide instant level-matched comparisons inside the production session.

Even though its vague, I agree and would add that (though subjective) if you can really hear the compressor overworking or overcompensating a signal and ruining the power of the song, that’s bad compression. I’ll sometimes hear it on a lead vocal or the mastering channel of an artist who mixed their own song and is new to the whole process. Just hard knee and creating odd spaces by clamping and squashing back the signal.
For me compressors are tools with many use cases. Even out a signal, make transients snappier, and glue. So there is no "bad compression". I think what you are listening to is the songs mastering tho which has to do a lot with limiting.
