The Problem

Industrial manufacturers are being asked by customers and other stakeholders to disclose the carbon footprint of individual products, but critical emissions data is scattered across suppliers and internal systems. Raw-material origins, production energy, component footprints, and transport activity are especially difficult to obtain and normalize beyond direct suppliers. Without a consistent calculation method, procurement teams cannot reliably compare suppliers or estimate how sourcing changes affect emissions.

Potential Solution

Provide a productized calculation and supplier-data collection service for one manufacturing category at a time. The service gathers bills of materials, purchasing records, production energy, transport activity, and supplier declarations; resolves missing data using documented industry factors; and produces methodology-backed product carbon footprint records. Delivery begins as expert-led project work, with reusable questionnaires, calculation templates, evidence registers, and update procedures making recurring portfolio refreshes increasingly standardized.

Why Now?

Customers are demanding product-level transparency while manufacturers face growing pressure to measure indirect supply-chain emissions. Emerging calculation standards make comparable reporting more achievable, but implementation and supplier-data collection remain difficult for companies without dedicated expertise.

Exactly. But if your immediate crisis is environmental compliance, specifically calculating those massive scope 1 through 3 freight emissions. Right. And establishing exact product carbon footprints to satisfy European regulators, you need a completely different engine. Okay. So who handles that? That's where companies are turning to platforms like CIRA, which recently acquired SupplyShift to really deepen their lifecycle assessment capabilities. Oh. They handle the hard physics of carbon tracking. Got it.

I mean, you're, you're quickly hitting on probably the biggest thing in sustainability for not just Robinson, for, for most companies is how to tackle that scope three emissions. So for, I'm sure maybe most people know this, but in case you're listening and don't scope three emissions are the emissions that come from your, your value chain or your supply chain. So that's a big part of most companies emissions. It can be, you know, 75 to 90% for Robinson. It's more than 99% of our emissions come from our scope three, just based on our business model. And I think that, you know, to your point that I think even just the way you ask the question is really smart because you can't come in and just say like, now you all must do this.

Resilient Supply Chain— stories and strategies that keep business moving Because supply chain touches all the pieces of the puzzle, just like environmental health and safety or ESG, sustainability, whatever you wanna call it. Both do. I see the integration and the impact that we should have between those groups or departments if they're separate, is that when we look at scope one, two, and three emissions, guess what? Supply chain has a lot of visibility, connections, context. They know all the pieces of the puzzle already. We need to work better with them and integrate into understand these are the things we need and have collaborative conversations and discussions and education of our vendors and suppliers through that process.
