I have not forgotten about Windows. Over on Windows, Power Toys Workspaces gives you a concrete starting point for a different kind of everyday problem. Because it can capture and launch a collection of applications in a single chosen arrangement. So if getting ready for one kind of work means opening two, three, four, or five different applications and putting them all into a particular set of spaces, you can make that setup really repeatable. So you start up in the morning, you have to have your window for shooting over here, your window for video editing over here, etc. You can get all of that done in one click. And Workspace supplies the repeatable launch sequence.

Yeah exactly what rdxgs quoted. Tried PowerToys Workspaces first, but a few things made it annoying for daily use: * Duplicate windows: Instead of just moving an open app, it often launches a second instance/window of stuff like Discord or browser. * Leaves desktop messy: It just opens new apps on top without closing or hiding the previous workspace. * Bloat: PowerToys runs a ton of background services and is pretty heavy. Wanted a tiny standalone exe with zero install/telemetry. * Fine-tuning: In my app you can manually tweak pixel coordinates or switch target monitors right in the UI without re-capturing everything. PowerToys is solid if you just want to launch layouts from scratch, but for actually switching contexts back and forth cleanly it didn't cut it for me.

Haha honestly, I totally blanked on the fact that I tried PowerToys myself a while back and had my fair share of issues with it. Regarding state preservation, it depends on what you mean: If the apps are already running: Yeah, 100%. It doesn't restart them—it just grabs the active window handles and moves/resizes them to the exact spots and monitors instantly. All your open tabs, active terminal sessions, unsaved code, etc., stay completely untouched. If an app is closed and the profile launches it: It relies on the application's built-in session restore (like VS Code or your browser reopening previous tabs), since you can't really freeze and thaw raw RAM states of arbitrary third-party Windows processes. I can try this when I got more time, maybe the AI can achieve it. The main advantages over native Windows Virtual Desktops for my workflow: Memory management: Virtual Desktops keep everything running in RAM simultaneously, which gets cluttered and heavy very quickly. Multi-monitor stability: Windows Virtual Desktops notoriously lose their minds when monitors disconnect, go to sleep, or wake up (dumping all windows onto a single screen). Workspace Switcher enforces exact coordinates and monitors regardless of display reconnect quirks. Dedicated profiles: Everything is stored in human-readable JSON configs that survive reboots, can automatically close unused background apps on switch, and trigger instantly via global hotkeys. Btw I forgot to say at the start when u said "it really liked the Claude UI" I gave the prototype Design into ChatGPT said he should generate a smoother interface and then gave it gemini as reference.
