The Problem

Audiobook listeners frequently lose their place when an app crashes, updates, switches devices, connects to a car, or mishandles downloaded files. Existing players often provide only one current position, so a bad synchronization event can overwrite the last reliable checkpoint and force listeners to search through hours of audio.

Potential Solution

Build an offline-first audiobook player that records a timestamped listening history and creates automatic restore points whenever playback pauses, chapters change, or devices synchronize. Start with locally stored, user-owned audiobooks and Audiobookshelf libraries, adding simple folder import, reliable chapter handling, and an interface for restoring any recent position. Sell the complete player as a one-time purchase, with an optional paid synchronization service.

Why Now?

Listeners increasingly combine downloaded files, self-hosted libraries, phones, tablets, and vehicle playback, while incumbent apps continue to lose progress during synchronization and updates. The evidence also shows willingness to pay a modest one-time price for a dependable, subscription-free player.

And the price is more than reasonable.

In order to find titles, you must write them exact, otherwise the search renders nothing (not even other suggestions). For audiobooks, if you happen to pause the book, you must close the app and open it again to continue playing. Pausing an audiobook disables the play button as well as the forward and back buttons. You can't search by audiobook chapters. You make your best guess searching by "tracks", and one chapter may have two or more tracks. You can't always play the
