People know they are spending too much time on social apps, but passive screen-time charts and strict blockers often fail because they feel punitive or easy to abandon. Remote workers, students, and habitual doomscrollers want control without fully losing access to the apps they still need or want. Existing tools cluster around app blocking, while users are responding to positive reinforcement, gradual reduction, and privacy-first designs.
Build a mobile app that lets users select distracting apps, set daily limits, and earn unlock credits through verified habits such as walking, workouts, push-ups, sleep wind-downs, or custom offline goals. The first product surface can be a phone-based dashboard showing blocked apps, earned credits, current streak, and the next healthy action needed to unlock more time. Verification can start with Apple Health, Google Fit, Screen Time or Digital Wellbeing APIs?, local timers, and optional camera-based rep counting later.
Multiple indie launches in the same week are testing nearly identical behavior loops, suggesting active demand but no dominant product yet. Platform APIs? for screen time, fitness data, and on-device AI make a solo-built first version feasible.

Very great option for habit tracking/quitting Days Since has really helped me get a grasp on how often my bad habits control me, and has helped me fight them back. I love how you don’t get hit with a paywall immediately when you get into the app. It’s optional to pay for more features, but they don’t force it on you, they just show you what is possible with paying. No ads either (don’t know why there would be ads, but there aren’t any that I have seen).
Helpful Aid The app does require you to be honest and self regulate. But overall it’s a good place to track Days since you did an unwanted behavior. Reset button allows you to enter a note about what happened/triggers. Paid version might be better if you need more support
Love the app but…. I really like this app overall. I recently downloaded it to track how many days I’ve been away from social media. Most of the other apps I found are focused on sobriety or addiction recovery, whereas this app feels much more general purpose and can be used for many different goals. My biggest issue is that the iOS widget is locked behind a subscription. A basic widget that simply lets you glance at your streak without opening the app
