Considering trying to get antidepressents - would like to hear some of your experiences

I used Zoloft I believe, it made me gain 15 lbs or something which made me even worse. Then I took nothing for a while, lost the weight, and then starting taking something else (can't remember). It made me 100x worse and kinda crazy/angry if I missed it for just a day or two. I stopped taking those but had to ween off of the pills in fractional milligram amounts for months to prevent the weird response. I was recently prescribed a pill for social anxiety and it's not exactly an antidepressant but I can't fucking stand it. It makes me feel like everything is fine when I know it's not. I just throw away a pill whenever I'm supposed to take one cause it doesn't make anything better, just provides the illusion it does. I'm not you, I think most people have great experiences with them. But mine has been terrible.

Thank you for your detailed reply, I really appreciate it. I have tried numerous therapies over the years including CBT, DBT and EDMR and none of them have worked. I get what you are saying about medication but I will say, without my fluoxetine and seroquel I would be in a much worse place. That is why I am keen to explore adding a mood stabiliser to the mix.

That is non benzodiazepine since I’m in recovery from Xanax How has it work for you? I am currently prescribed Abilify for cyclothymia disorder I do feel like I need to be medicated for anxiety
