Anyone found a good way to tailor resume for different postings without starting from scratch each time?

yeah this is the exact problem i had when i was applying to both data roles and SWE roles last year. keeping one "master resume" with everything on it and then trimming down per role type kinda works but its still tedious. i ended up using AIApply for the tailoring part because it generates resumes matched to each posting so i dont have to manually reframe everything. still worth having your master doc tho so you know whats available to pull from

What skills do people "fall behind" on?

It’s super annoying- a hiring mgr was like “i see you don’t have X experience” but I actually did build with it for a few months, and two very similar technologies did make it to my resume. I’ve done too many things to add them all in a 2-3 page document. Even if I didn’t have it I can pick it up, like I’ve done with every other technology on my resume. I didn’t customize my resume for that exact position, which I do when I’m more seriously looking. That helps avoid this situation, and is made easier with AI. Just create a “master” resume that’s far too long, or a mega brag doc, or similar, that contains all the source material that AI should draw from to create your custom resume for each position. Just make sure you know what it says before the interview, lol.

I do think certifications is a strong start. If you want to stand out, and this is becoming a catch-22 in the recruiting world, right? Because it's getting easier and easier to look good on paper. Everybody can use AI to customize their resume. You can customize it for each job. You can send out great, great cover letters again. So hiring managers are getting flooded with cover letters again because it takes little to no time to create those. And they can still be personalized and still talk about you and still be relevant. I mean, data annotation, and when you do get your profile set up is that you want to make sure that you list, you know, any publications, any type of research that you have in these various areas, because the more detailed information that you have, the more opportunities that are going to be put forth. And you know, AI is definitely going over your resume. You know, they are. Of course they are. You know, and with the AI interviews, you know, one of the things people are doing is they're making a mistake is that, see right now, a lot of companies are doing AI interviews first because why wouldn't they? And so you're talking to an avatar. And so some people are like, oh, you know, they, look off to the side, they're checking their phone because they're thinking like, it doesn't matter.
